Glass weathering, also known as glass mold, many people think that as an inorganic material, how can glass mold? It should be stains, right? In fact, glass can mold. There are many reasons for glass mold, and under certain conditions, weathering, also known as anti alkali, can manifest as rainbows, mold spots, watermarks, paper marks, and other phenomena. Below, we will specifically explain how to deal with mold in tempered glass.

1. The reasons for mold growth in tempered glass

There is water vapor and moisture adsorption on the glass surface, and with the development of time, it diffuses to the interior of the glass. The soluble silicate on the glass surface is hydrolyzed and destroyed, forming caustic soda and separating silica, forming silica gel, forming a protective film on the glass surface to prevent further erosion of water vapor. The caustic soda formed by hydrolysis and carbon dioxide in the air form sodium carbonate, which aggregates on the surface of the glass to form soluble salts, adsorbs water and deliquests, forming local erosion spots on the glass surface. At this point, we observe spots or mist on the surface of tempered glass under sunlight or strong light, which cannot be wiped off with water. This is a sign of glass mold, and in severe cases, it can be seen even without sunlight.

2. How to deal with mold on tempered glass

2.1. Solution to Moldy Tempered Glass

After mixing hydrofluoric acid (HF) with water in a ratio of 1:8, wipe the glass. It is important to note that if the solution exceeds 1:8, it can cause damage to the skin. Personal protective measures should be taken during the operation. After wiping with the mixed solution, clean the glass with clean water. For other stains, use a cleaning agent and then wipe the surface of the glass with a damp cloth.

2.2. Preventive measures for mold growth in tempered glass

(1) Anti mold agent: By spraying anti mold isolation powder on the glass surface and applying static electricity to the powder before spraying, the powder can uniformly adhere to the glass surface, playing an anti mold role.

(2) Mould proof liquid: spray the mould proof liquid spray on the surface of the glass or apply it to make the mould proof liquid stay on the surface of the tempered glass. The mould proof liquid can play a mould proof effect after drying.

(3) Anti mold paper clip: During the transportation of glass, paper (anti mold paper) can be sandwiched between glass and glass, and the glass surface should be blown to prevent dust from slipping and rubbing between the paper and glass, resulting in mechanical abrasion.

The above is the specific method for dealing with mold in tempered glass. Generally, colored tempered glass is more prone to mold than other ordinary flat glass because the more metal oxides there are, the larger the sodium ion enrichment zone, and the more non bridging cations there are, which may increase the risk of mold. In addition to doing a good job in glass protection during the production of tempered glass, we should also maintain a dry environment and glass protection during transportation and storage.
